Proskills recently accompanied the British Council to Kazakhstan to meet with government ministers and local mining employers and industry associations to commence the development of a mining Sector Skills Council. Kazakhstan is the third fastest growing economy and mining represents 27% of its GPD.
As such the government and industry is keen to maximise the skills potential of its employees to not only provide a safer working environment, but also to increase productivity. They have looked at many skills systems in other countries and believe that the UK has most to offer.
Extractive and Mineral Processing Industry Lead, Jonathan Ledger commented “This is a great opportunity for Proskills to work with Kazakhstan in order to develop the right skills structure from the outset. By supporting the Kazakhstan government and stakeholders in developing their SSC, Proskills is demonstrating that it has a wealth of valuable expertise which it can utilise during this process. By developing international relations through projects like this, Proskills will also be able to offer an enhanced service to its Accredited Training Provider Network through the international opportunities this activity will create.”
